The MIFF 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award was given to director Arthur Penn. Arthur Penn was ill and unable to receive the award in person. The award was presented by festival programmer Ken Eisen. Actress Verna Bloom, and writer and film critic Jay Cocks, accepted the award on behalf of their friend Arthur Penn.
