ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS OF OUR 350 CONTEST
We would like to announce the winners of our 350 contest. They are Jim Bennett of the United Kingdom; Jim Floyd of Maine; and Mary Lindahl, also of Maine. Congratulations to you all and thank you for entering our contest.
As readers probably know, right now there is a big environmental conference being held in Copenhagen, and this seemed like the perfect time to announce the winners of our 350 contest. Climate scientists estimate that a safe level of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere would be 350 parts per million or less. Currently, it is at about 387 parts per million and rising. The results are clear: melting glaciers, droughts, and an Arctic that is losing ice so quickly that many scientists believe it will be ice free in the summer by 2011. Our snappy T-shirts, designed by Michael Mulkeen, prominently feature the number 350, and each winner will receive one of these shirts, a timely reminder of what we should be aiming for.
The T-shirt’s logo is “We Can Turn Things Around.” At Wolf Moon Journal, we truly do believe this while at the same time realizing that the decisions reached at Copenhagen might not go far enough. (Unfortunately, change is often much slower than we would like.) But on a big level, the Copenhagen Conference will bring a worldwide awareness to the dangers of climate change, and on a much smaller level, so will the T-shirts. Again, congratulations to the winners of our contest.
